we survived the end of the Mayan calendar ;-) It was comical that there were rumors going around about what time the world would end LOL We wanted to go to Chichenitza for "the end", but decided to meet a dear friend at a local festival instead. I thought it was a much more cultural experience than going to another pyramid with many other tourist because the festival was created by locals and attended by locals. The organizers calculated our birthdays and told us our mayan signs and their meanings. Then, we were guided through a maze that was created on the beach with many different rooms according to the mayan signs. In each room we were meet by another person that informed us about the signs and lead us through a guided meditation that made us focus on letting go of the past, welcoming change and forging forward. It was a very enlightening and unique experience that we couldn't have gotten anywhere else! Once we were done with the tour, we realized that the various times for the "end of the world" had already passed and we were still living it up :-) We survived and were recharged for the new times ahead!
